Laundry

Guess what? Today I washed the comforter for my parents by using a bathtub from 1something in the afternoon until 5something. Well, I've been stuck inside the loo for more than 3 hours...

One word:Tiring

My leg is aching after I've done the laundry, until now also still pain. Aiks~! Ever since my A-level finished, I've been a pig at home for a long time-enjoying life here! Heck, and I'm not active in sports, thus, my muscles are so weak. Guess i need to start up to exercise much so that I can build my stamina up. Hehe..

Back to the story, the comforter is so heavy till I cannot use my hand to wash.. Thus, "tink"..an idea popped up from my head hence i used my bare leg(clean though) to wash... Crazy isn't it? However, it's one of the method to wash clothes by human beings before washing machines are created.

Yucks, once I dunked the comforter into the water. Wow, it's completely *dirty*..The crystal clear H20 change to greyish. Can u guys imagine it? I beg u not! Haha..

My method of washing it:
-Put detergent, washed it...rinsed it...put detergent again, washed it, rinsed it again.. The act was repeating over and over again until the comforter is clean and the water is clear enough when i dunked it again. I've been doing these for more than 3 hours...really...don't know what to say about it. I'll leave this to your imagination status...LOL ^^

However, doing laundry is an art as well(ekhem, not clubbing that kind of laundry please!), well, over the years, decades, centuries, milleniums human beings got to do laundry. Thus there are history of doing "laundry"..

History of laundry
________________________

Laundry was probably first done in streams and letting the stream carry away the materials causing stains and smells. Laundry may still be done this way in some less industrialized areas and rural regions. Agitation helps remove the dirt, so the laundry is often rubbed, twisted, or slapped against flat rocks. Wooden bats or clubs could be used to help with beating the dirt out. These were called washing beetles.

Various chemicals may be used increase the solvent power of water, such as the compounds in soaproot or yucca-root used by Native American tribes. Soap, a compound made from lye (from wood-ash) and fat, is an ancient and very common laundry aid. However, modern washing machines typically use powdered or liquid laundry detergent in place of soap.

When no streams were available, laundry was done in water-tight vats or vessels. Sometimes large metal cauldrons were filled with fresh water and heated over a fire; boiling water was even more effective than cold in removing dirt. The washboard, a corrugated slab of a hard material such as metal, replaced rocks as a surface for loosening soil.

Once clean, the clothes were wrung out — twisted to remove most of the water. Then they were hung up on poles or clotheslines to dry, or sometimes just spread out on clean grass.
